Dr Ashleigh McLellan  Consultant Clinical Psychologist

I have been studying psychology since the age of 16 and many years later it continues to fascinate me; I don't think I will ever stop studying and learning.

I have worked as a Clinical Psychologist all my adult life and I love listening to people's stories, helping them make sense of them and finding ways to reduce distress and increase flourishing.

Clinical Psychology training is across the whole lifespan and range of populations including adults, children and people with learning disabilities.  Whilst the training is rigorous and includes a broad range of therapies with a significant focus on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), I have also undertaken additional training in Family and Systemic Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) and Group Analysis.  I have been using Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT) since 2008 and in 2017 I completed the Post Graduate Certificate in Compassion Focussed Therapy.  I am now one of the trainers for the Compassionate Mind Foundation, delivering the introductory workshop.

I have 20 years experience in the NHS.  I have worked with a range of adult mental health difficulties including problems such as anxiety, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, health anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder.  I also worked in a health psychology setting where people were struggling with chronic pain and gastroenterological conditions.  I was part of a Community Mental Health Team for many years in both a rural team, and in a diverse city and worked with those with severe and enduring mental health difficulties including diagnoses of personality disorder and complex trauma presentations.  Most recently my experience has been with Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, helping people who have suffered sexual, physical and emotional abuse, may have been victims of chronic domestic violence or torture.  Areas of specialism include military veterans and refugees and asylum seekers.

I am passionate about health and wellbeing at work having provided staff supervision and support to colleagues for many years in my position as a clinical psychologist. I also deliver training and team building workshops on developing compassion within the workplace.

As my work is increasingly in the corporate sector I am developing Compassion Focused Coaching delivering training and workshops as well as bespoke coaching packages for individual corporate clients.
